Not just another sea day

Our cruise director, Heather Clancy, has a background singing opera and has a lovely mezzo soprano voice.  The story she tells is that the first time she came aboard a Viking ocean going ship and saw the atrium with its broad stairway, grand piano, and two story screen, she envisioned a choir singing in it.  Today we made her dream come true.  Within the first few days aboard, our Viking Daily invited all of any skill level to join the Inaugural World Cruise Choir.  Rehearsal the first day was attended by over 50 people.  We have a delightful West Londoner named Gary Jerry (I only hope that is a stage name!) who leads us.  This afternoon at 4:00, we had our first performance singing a medley of songs from the musical, South Pacific.  Heather lead us and Gary played the piano.  We stood on the floor of the atrium and our audience sat on the stairs or the 2nd and 3rd decks overlooking.  David came a half hour early to try to get a good seat, but the place was already packed and he only managed to get this interesting shot of me from where he ended up.  It was great fun which makes me glad we will continue to have performances throughout the remainder of the cruise.
