Crossing The Ditch
Today is the first of three sea days that are required to cross the Tasman Sea which lies between New Zealand and Australia, colloquially known as "Crossing the ditch". I predicted that the waters would be rough going around the southern tip of NZ, but we also have quite a bit of cloud cover today which is probably contributing to the high swells. I don't know how high, but the spray from the waves which crash against the bow frequently comes up higher than the rail on our 4th deck veranda. I spent the morning in bed, thinking that it was the safest place to be. I finally ventured out of our stateroom at 2:00 pm to meet with my crazy quilt group--there were 7 of us brave souls. One woman told about the chaos in the World Cafe this morning with dishes and liquids everywhere. Neither David nor I had been hungry for breakfast, but when we finally decided we wanted something to eat, I overcame my feeling of guilt about overburdening the room service crew and decided that those young crew members had better balance than I and ordered a salad and a sandwich to be delivered. I was told by one of the quilters that it's supposed to be better tomorrow--hope so for David's sake. Apparently, our cowboy captain is relishing this--YeeHa! After this, the usual movement will seem like nothing at all. (I hope the video works!)
The video worked great! But I was amazed at how stable the ship seemed as it plowed through the rough seas.
