Getting ready
When we first signed up for this adventure of a lifetime on April 30, 2016, there were 594 days until we sailed. Now there are 27. While the trip has been in the back of our minds much of that time, it has risen to the very focal point of our thoughts. Lists abound of things to take care of as we prepare to leave our spacious and solid home in Sandy and adopt a floating home for 20 weeks. Many nights of sleep are being interrupted by more ideas of essentials to take with us or other ways to secure our home in our absence.
We've had our shots, stockpiled our meds, and have loaded ourselves with every sea-sickness remedy known to man. We know what we'll do with our mail, how the bills will be paid and how we'll communicate with friends and family at home. We will pack enough clothes for two weeks and make use of the self-service laundromat and the ship's laundry--wash, rinse, repeat. I have lined up several projects to keep me occupied on the days at sea and David looks forward to lots of time to read. I try not to think of 5 months without rubbing shoulders with friends and snuggling with grand-kids. We just keep trying to cross things off our lists and be ready in the time left.
